Holiday Times Call for Holiday Activities

Are you looking for fun, holiday activities to get you to break? Or are you looking for easy exercises for those first few days back? Look no further, as I have some fantastic resources for you.

Social-Emotional

The first resource is a great resource to use in your calm-down corner, during social-emotional lessons, or when a problem arises. With this resource, learners will be able to recognize and accurately label emotions and how they are linked to their behavior, not only in the classroom but outside as well. You can choose whether you print this in color or black and white, as both options are available in this one resource. Not only do you have the option of how you print it, but it is differentiated to meet the needs of various learning levels.

Option 1 is for your lowest learners. With this option, the learner will circle what emotion the tree is showing. After that, there are sentence starters for the learner to fill in, “I think the tree feels ….. because …” The learner will fill in the emotion from the one they circle, then explain why they chose that. This gets learners thinking about emotions and how to identify them.

Option 2 is for your middle learners. With this option, the learner will choose an emotion from the word box. They are then given lined paper and sentence starters to answer the questions. The first sentence starter is “I think the tree feels … because …” The second sentence starter is “Sometimes I feel this way when …” Not only does this get the learner to identify the feelings and emotions of someone else, but they also connect it to their lives and times when they feel the same.

Option 3 is for your higher learners. With this option, the learner must identify the emotion that the tree is portraying without any word choices. They are given the same sentence starters as option 2, but learners have to use their inference skills and understanding of emotions to try and identify what the tree is showing.

Mathematics

This resource is great for your holiday mathematics centers or to just add some fun into your mathematics lesson. With this resource, learners will use their knowledge of shapes to identify them, find shapes, and know the attributes of the shapes. This resource provides options for printing in color or black and white, as well as reaching an array of learners and levels.

Posters are provided with this resource with the option of color or black and white. These posters include the shape, as well as the name and its attributes.

Who Has Cards are an option for learners to play a game with each other and practice their knowledge about shapes. Each learner will get a card with either the shape and name or the attributes. Learners will have to go around and find the learner who has a matching card. For example, If I have the circle card, I am looking for someone who has the attributes of a circle. This could definitely be played with multiple learners or a learner and an adult.

Matching Worksheets are another option. On the worksheet, there are shapes on one side of the worksheet and the learner must match them to the name of the shape. This is an activity that can be printed for each learner, or laminated and learners can use dry-erase markers to draw and match.

Find the Shape mats are a fun search-and-find activity. At the top is a prompt for the learner to find a specific shape. This activity can be printed for individuals or laminated. The learner could circle the shapes or use a counter or object to put on the shapes.

The last activity in this resource is the Make The Pattern worksheets. Not only are learners working on shapes, but also patterns. Learners are given the start of two different patterns in which they cut out the shapes at the bottom and glue the correct shapes to finish the patterns. They will then write down the shapes that make up the pattern.
