Kinesthetic Learner- What Do I Do?

Learners do not come in one neat learning style, so we need to adapt our education to meet the needs of all.

The first learner to talk about is the kinesthetic learner. Kinesthetic learners want to learn with physical activity. Children that align will prefer to incorporate their whole body into their learning process when learning new, difficult, or reviewed information.

So, what do I do to reach this kind of learner? Here are three tips to help you in promoting your kinesthetic learners.

One way to bring movement into reading is through spelling or vocabulary words. I love to create actions that go with the word. What would this look like? Say children are learning the spelling word “house”. The children would work with the educator to create an action they associate with the word. Maybe that is creating a triangle roof with their arms over their heads. The children and the educator would do the action and say, “h…o…u…s…e…house….house”. Learners get up, move, and associate the movement with the spelling and the word.

www.KidsFreezeDance.com: If you are looking for meaningful ways to incorporate movement into learning, look no further. Jay creates videos with purposeful movement from various content areas spanning from kindergarten through third grade. These videos are great for teachers, parents, homeschoolers, and more. Jay creates a fun and creative environment that draws in the learners. He plays the drums and has the students move then he has them freeze and present material when children’s senses are the most heightened. A third way to reach kinesthetic learners is through movement breaks. Here are some various channels that are great for promoting movement breaks.

  • https://linktr.ee/kookookangaroo: If you have little learners, I am sure you have heard about Koo Koo Kangaroo. They have created fun brain break videos that get children up and moving while giving their brains a break.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVcQH8A634mauPrGbWs7QlQ : Jack Hartmann’s channel is a great place to look for brain-break videos that also serve an educational purpose. He covers various content areas from mathematics, reading, spelling, and just movement videos. These videos are best suited for elementary-level learners.

These are just a few ways that educators can reach our kinesthetic learners. If you want more ideas, feel free to leave a message. I would love to help you reach all your kinesthetic learners and their needs.
