Fun Learning Tools for February: Mathematics
Okay, okay, you may be saying Lindsey why are you writing a post about February when it is still January? We all know how quickly holidays creep up on us. I want you ready for February with fun resources to engage your learners.
Differentiated Roll and Compute for Beginning Learners: February Edition
This resource is excellent to incorporate into mathematics lessons and stations. It is differentiated to meet the needs of various levels of learners, so if you have learners at different levels, they will all get to participate. This resource includes color and black-and-white options to choose how you want to print them. Let’s take a look at this resource:
Numbers:
The first option is for just numbers. They are given the number and the number name. The great thing about this roll and compute is that you can decide what you want the learners to do. One option is for the learners to identify and read the name of the numbers for that category. Another option is for learners to write the number and number name on a whiteboard, in the sand, in shaving cream, or any other option you have. A third option is for students to represent the number with objects or manipulatives. In this option, students are given numbers from 0-20.
Basic Addition:
This second option is for your learners working on their addition facts. They are given basic addition facts using numbers 0-10. Even though this option involves numbers from 0-10, they are broken down. If a learner needs to focus on +5 facts and less, you can give them those sheets. This can be tailored to meet the needs of the learners that interact with it.
Double Digit: No Regrouping:
This third option is for your learners working on adding multi-digit numbers. This option has learners adding numbers from 11-20 that do not require regrouping. Depending on how advanced the learners are, the educator can choose to use the option with the facts in order, or there is an option where the facts are randomly selected. This helps the educator differentiate and make sure that each learner has the work they can complete successfully.
Double Digit: Regrouping:
This last option is for learners that are more advanced in their addition journey and are working on adding numbers that require regrouping. This option works with numbers from 11-20 that will require learners to regroup.
As you can see, this resource has options for a variety of learners, so everyone can participate in the fun. If you have any questions about this resource, please feel free to ask. Below is the link to this resource:
